Honored by: OC Parks

Cause Area: Animals & Environment

Over the past year, Jeannie Whitmer has been an important part of our team at OC Parks, volunteering at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, O’Neill Regional Park, Irvine Ranch Open Space, and Heritage Hill Historical Park.  She has assisted with many special events like Acorn Day at O’NWhitmer_Jeannie.OC Parks2.jpgeill, the Whiting Ranch Poker Ride, and Heritage Hill’s Candlelight Walk. Jeannie has a smile and energy that inspires those around her, allowing her to easily connect with park visitors. She has led multiple interpretive programs, sharing her passion of nature with both young and old and utilizing her skills and experience as a retired teacher to create programs that entertain and educate. Even when there is difficult work, Jeannie does not hesitate to help. She has worked on habitat restoration projects, trail rebuilding and even the mundane gate duty when the parks were closed due to mountain lion activity. We owe many thanks to Jeannie as she contributed greatly to the success of our programs, projects and to the park experience of thousands of park visitors.
