Let’s pause to take a quick trip around the globe. Imagine one week where volunteers across the globe leave their computers, fax machines, and filing to come alongside their community partners and volunteer.

PIMCO’s Global Week of Volunteering was developed in 2009 to heighten the impact of our employees’ worldwide volunteer efforts. Global Week is a celebration of our longstanding commitment to our communities, and a way for us to collectively and creatively have a meaningful impact around the world.

2016 marked the 8th Annual Global Week, uniting 1,400 volunteers to participate in more than 94 events, in 13 countries, donating 3,415 hours around the globe.global-week-of-volunteering-committee-pimco

In Newport Beach, more than 525 employees volunteered for 35 events. Events ranged from hands-on, sweat equity and get dirty; to skills-based in our PIMCO conference rooms. We packaged 10,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now; helped students from the Blind Children’s Learning Center rotate through sensory activities at a local playground; hosted resume writing and interview skills workshop for Women Helping Women/Men2Work clients.

All this is planned by a small and mighty group of volunteers – The Global Week of Volunteering Committee. Since forming in 2009, members have included Liz Kraninger, Junko Muraki, and Alex Williamson.

The committee ensures they do everything in their power to empower PIMCO employees to take part in addressing some of the most challenging issues facing our local communities, by identifying fun, transformative, and creative ways in which PIMCO’s skill-sets can be put to do really good work.
